Same-Day Mobile Tyre Fitting: How It Works

What happens between your call and a new tyre on your car, and how to get it done faster.

A flat tyre, a sidewall bulge or a warning from your MOT tester rarely comes at a convenient time. Booking a garage slot days away, then finding a way to get the car there on a damaged tyre, is often the hardest part. Same-day mobile tyre fitting removes both problems: a fitter comes to you, with the tyre, and does the job where the car is parked.

This guide walks you through exactly what happens when you contact us, what affects how quickly we can get to you, and the small things you can do to make the visit quicker.

Short answer: same-day mobile tyre fitting works in four steps:

  1. Contact us by phone, WhatsApp or the contact form, 24 hours a day.
  2. Give your location, your tyre size from the sidewall and your registration.
  3. We send the nearest of our 100+ mobile fitters with the right tyre, aiming to reach you within 60 minutes in most cases.
  4. The fitter replaces the tyre on the spot, usually in well under an hour for one tyre, including balancing and taking the old one away.

Step 1: Get in Touch, Day or Night

You can call, send a WhatsApp message or use the contact form on our website at any hour. We cover England and Wales 24/7, so a puncture at 11pm on a Sunday is handled the same way as one at 10am on a Tuesday. If you are at the roadside and feel unsafe, a phone call is the quickest route, because we can ask the right questions straight away.

Step 2: Tell Us Three Things

To send the right fitter with the right tyre, we need:

  • Where you are: a full address or postcode is ideal. On a main road, a junction number, nearby landmark or the what3words for the spot helps the fitter find you.
  • Your tyre size: printed on the sidewall, in a format like 205/55 R16 91V. That is the width in millimetres, the profile, the rim diameter in inches, then the load index and speed rating. If you can, send a photo of the sidewall. Our guide to tyre ratings explains each part.
  • Your registration: this helps confirm the size and spot anything unusual, such as run-flat tyres or a car that needs extra load tyres (see what XL means on a tyre).

It also helps to tell us what has happened. A nail in the tread may be repairable rather than needing a new tyre, which is something our mobile tyre repair service can check on arrival. If you are not sure, our article on whether a tyre with a nail or screw can be repaired covers the rules.

Step 3: The Nearest Fitter Is Sent to You

We have more than 100 mobile fitters spread across our service areas. Once we know your size and location, we match the job to the nearest fitter who can supply that tyre. In most cases we aim to reach you within 60 minutes.

That is a target, not a guarantee. Arrival time depends on how far the closest available fitter is, traffic and road conditions, and whether your tyre size is one we can source immediately. If timing matters, ask for an estimate when you book so you can plan around it.

Step 4: The Tyre Is Fitted Where You Are

The fitter brings the tyre and the equipment to fit it where your car is. On arrival they will:

  • Check the damaged tyre and confirm whether it needs replacing or can be repaired.
  • Remove the wheel, take off the old tyre and fit the new one, with a new valve where needed.
  • Balance the wheel, which is included free, so you do not get vibration through the steering.
  • Refit the wheel, tighten the nuts to the correct torque and set the pressures.
  • Take your old tyre away for disposal, also free of charge.

For a single tyre the job is usually well under an hour from start to finish. You can stay at home or carry on working while it is done. New tyres come with the manufacturer’s guarantee, and you can pay by card, cash or bank transfer.

What Can Make Same-Day Fitting Harder

Most common car and van sizes can usually be fitted the same day. A few things can slow it down:

Uncommon Tyre Sizes

Very large rims, low-profile performance sizes and some older or imported sizes are not always held locally. We may need to source the tyre first, which can push fitting later in the day or to the next day. If you have a choice of brands, being flexible often helps.

Run-Flat Tyres

Run-flats need the right replacement tyre and are less widely stocked in every size. Most manufacturers also advise against repairing them, so a puncture usually means a new tyre. Read more in can run-flat tyres be repaired.

A Missing Locking Wheel Nut Key

If your wheels have locking nuts, the fitter needs the key adaptor to remove them. It is often in the glovebox, the boot floor or with the spare wheel kit. If it is lost, removing the nuts takes extra time and sometimes special tools, so please mention it when you book.

Unsafe Locations

Our fitters need a reasonably safe, level place to work. On a motorway hard shoulder it is not safe to change a wheel, and you may need recovery to a safer spot first. Our guide to a flat tyre on the motorway explains what to do. We also offer breakdown recovery if the car needs moving.

How to Speed Things Up

  • Send a sidewall photo: it removes any doubt about the size, load index or run-flat marking.
  • Find the locking wheel nut key before the fitter arrives.
  • Give precise location details, including which car park level or side of the building you are on.
  • Leave room around the car if you can, so the fitter can reach the wheel and jack points.
  • Keep your phone on so the fitter can call if they cannot find you.

Is Same-Day Fitting Only for Emergencies?

No. Plenty of people book a same-day visit simply because a tyre is close to the legal limit, or they have noticed a slow puncture and would rather deal with it now. If the tyres are worn but the car is still safe to drive, you can also book a convenient time later in the week. Our signs your tyre needs replacing will help you decide how urgent it is, and the FAQ answers other common questions.

We price competitively with no hidden fees, and you can see how our prices work before you call. To book same-day mobile tyre fitting for your car, or van tyre fitting for a work vehicle, call us any time on 07989 606060.
