A flat tyre anywhere in London, any time
London never really stops, and neither do its tyre problems. A blowout on the A406 North Circular in the evening rush, a puncture on the South Circular on the way home from a late shift, a car that won't move from a residents' bay in the morning, or a warning light on the M25 as you head out of the city. Whichever borough you're in, call us. We take calls 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and send the nearest available fitter with a tyre to wherever the car has stopped.
We aim to reach you within 60 minutes in most cases. Across a city this size, traffic and distance play a big part, so we'll give you an honest estimate based on where you are when you ring.
Ring roads, motorways and red routes
Where your tyre fails shapes what you should do next. London's main roads each bring their own problems.
- The North and South Circular: the A406 has fast, multi-lane stretches and big junctions, while the A205 is slower but narrow in places with little room to pull over. Ease off, indicate and head for the next side road or car park. Avoid stopping in a running lane unless the car simply can't go on.
- The M25 and the motorways that feed it: at the junctions where the M1, M4, M11, M23 and M40 meet the orbital, traffic is fast and heavy. Stop on the hard shoulder or in an emergency area, put the hazards on, leave by the left-hand doors and wait behind the barrier. If you're in an emergency area or stuck in a live lane, phone National Highways on 0300 123 5000. Our motorway flat tyre guide goes through it.
- Red routes and bus lanes: double red lines mean no stopping at any time, but a car that can't be driven safely shouldn't be pushed on just to avoid them. If you can roll a few metres into a side street at walking pace, do. Otherwise put the hazards on and get out on the pavement side.
Sorted at the kerb, or moved somewhere safer
Most London call-outs end with a new tyre fitted on the spot. If the tyre has a small puncture in the central tread and hasn't been run flat, the fitter may repair it to British Standard guidance instead. On a busy red route, a narrow street or a live lane where a fitter can't work safely, we can arrange breakdown recovery to take the car to a quieter spot first.
Tyres come in budget, mid-range and premium brands with the manufacturer's guarantee. Balancing and disposal of the old tyre are free. The price depends on the tyre size, brand, time and location, and it is competitive with no hidden fees.
Check for locking wheel nuts. The fitter can't take the wheel off without the adaptor key, so look for it in the glovebox or boot while you wait.
Glass, screws and potholes on city streets
Building sites, skips and the sheer volume of traffic leave a steady scatter of nails, screws and broken glass on London roads, especially in the gutter where you pull in to park. A screw often doesn't cause an instant flat. It lets air out slowly until the tyre is too low to drive on, usually when you next come back to the car. Our article on repairing a tyre with a nail or screw explains when a fix is possible. Potholes are the other big cause: a hard hit can cut a sidewall or raise a bulge, and that tyre needs replacing.
Every borough, inside and outside the Circulars
We cover the whole of Greater London, from the centre to the suburbs near the M25, north and south of the river. Many areas have their own page with local detail, including Brixton, Tottenham and Greenwich. Wherever you are, the process is the same.
