Air contracts as it cools, so a tyre set correctly on a warm afternoon in September can be noticeably under-inflated on a frosty morning in January. Cars parked outside overnight by the river feel this more than those kept in a heated garage.
Under-inflated tyres wear faster on the shoulders, make the car feel vague and use more fuel. As the weather turns, check pressures more often, ideally before you set off when the tyres are cold, using the figures in the handbook or on the door pillar. Don't let air out after a drive because the reading looks high; warm tyres always read higher. If one tyre needs topping up much more than the others, there's probably a slow puncture worth having looked at.
