Mobile Tyre Fitting on Hackney's Streets
Getting around Hackney by car means a lot of short hops: along Mare Street, up the A10 through Dalston and Kingsland, out along Lea Bridge Road. Bus lanes, speed humps and 20mph limits keep things slow, and most drivers park on the street or in an estate car park rather than on a drive. So when a tyre goes, it is usually somewhere awkward to leave and awkward to move.
We send a fitter to wherever the car is. The service runs day and night, all week, and we aim to reach you within 60 minutes in most cases. Traffic on the main roads through Hackney Central can vary a lot, so we'll tell you what to expect when you call.
If the car is in a residents' bay, a pay-and-display space or an underground car park beneath a block of flats, that is fine. As long as the fitter can get to the wheel and work safely, the tyre can usually be changed right there.
Reasons People in E8 and E9 Call Us Out
Some callers have a nail in the tread and a busy day ahead. Others have found a tyre completely flat on Monday morning and no spare in the boot. A few simply want new tyres fitted without spending a Saturday at a garage. In each case the process is the same:
- you tell us where you are and what you need;
- the closest of our 100+ fitters across England and Wales heads over with the tyre;
- the job is done on the spot, with wheel balancing and old-tyre disposal included free;
- you pay by card, cash or bank transfer, with nothing hidden on the bill.
Hackney Tyre Services at a Glance
- Mobile tyre fitting: choose from budget, mid-range or premium brands, fitted outside your home in Stoke Newington or at your workplace near Dalston Junction. The manufacturer's guarantee applies to every new tyre.
- Puncture repair: small punctures in the central tread are repaired to British Standard guidance; damage near the edge means a new tyre instead.
- Van tyres: plenty of small businesses in Hackney depend on a van, and a flat shouldn't cost them a day's work. Give us the size and load rating from the sidewall so the right tyre comes first time.
- Breakdown recovery: for a bent wheel, a car that won't start, or a vehicle stuck in a spot where fitting isn't safe.
Dalston, Stamford Hill, Homerton and the Wider Borough
Our fitters cover Hackney Central and Mare Street, Dalston and Kingsland, Stoke Newington, Stamford Hill, Clapton, Homerton and the roads in between. That includes the A10 corridor running north through the borough and Lea Bridge Road heading east over the River Lea.
Hackney is one of the districts in our London network. We also send fitters to neighbouring Islington, over the Lea to Leyton, north to Tottenham and south-east to Stratford.
Stop-Start Driving and Your Tread Depth
City driving wears tyres in a particular way. Pulling away from lights, braking for humps and turning tight corners all scrub rubber off, often more on the front tyres than the rear. Because the mileage looks low, it's easy to assume the tread is fine when it isn't.
The legal minimum for a car is 1.6 mm across the central three-quarters of the tread, all the way round. A quick check is to push a 20p coin into the main grooves: if you can see the outer band of the coin, the tyre is getting close to the limit. Check the inner edge too, since wear there is easy to miss and can point to tracking that needs looking at. Worn tyres take longer to stop in the wet, which matters on busy streets full of buses, cyclists and pedestrians.
