Think Twice Before Buying Part-Worn Tyres
Part-worn tyres are easy to find in London and can look like a quick fix. The trouble is you rarely know their history: a tyre that has been driven flat, clipped a kerb hard or repaired badly may look fine on the outside and still be weak inside. Some also arrive with only a few millimetres of tread left, so they will need replacing again soon.
If you do consider one, check it closely. Look for cuts, bulges or exposed cord, check the date code on the sidewall so you know how old it is, and make sure it matches the size and load rating in your handbook. Try to keep the same type and tread pattern on both wheels of an axle, as mismatched grip can make the car feel unsettled in the wet. Fitting new tyres means you start with full tread and a manufacturer's guarantee.
