Inside a mobile tyre fitting van: tyre changer, balancer and new tyres

If you need a new tyre or a puncture fixed, the first thing you probably want to know is what it will cost. The honest answer is that it depends on your tyre size, the brand you choose and how urgently you need the job done. What you can get is a clear idea of the typical prices UK drivers pay, so you know whether a quote is reasonable.

The figures below are typical ranges seen across UK mobile fitters and garages, taken from published prices and price guides. They are not our prices. For an exact quote from us, see the end of this article.

Short answer: typical UK ranges per tyre, fitted, are roughly:

  • budget car tyre (205/55 R16): £45 to £75;
  • mid-range car tyre (205/55 R16): £70 to £110;
  • premium car tyre (205/55 R16): £100 to £185;
  • puncture repair: £25 to £40;
  • mobile call-out in the daytime: often included, otherwise up to about £40;
  • emergency or out-of-hours call-out: roughly £40 to £150 on top, where charged.

Prices checked October 2026; they change with tyre brand, size and demand.

What Affects the Price

  • Tyre size: a 15 or 16 inch tyre for a small hatchback costs far less than a wide 19 inch tyre for an SUV. Bigger wheels also take longer to fit and balance.
  • Brand tier: budget, mid-range and premium tyres in the same size can differ by £100 or more each. Premium tyres often score better for wet grip and wear, which is worth weighing against the price. Our tyre brands page explains the options.
  • Time of day: many fitters charge more for late evenings, nights, weekends and bank holidays.
  • Urgency: a booked appointment a day or two ahead usually costs less than a fitter sent straight out to the roadside.
  • Location: prices in central London and other big cities tend to be a little higher than in rural areas, and a long drive to a remote spot can add to a call-out.
  • Number of tyres: any call-out cost is spread over the job, so fitting two or four tyres in one visit usually works out cheaper per tyre than one at a time.
  • Vehicle type: van tyres are built to carry heavier loads and cost more than car tyres of a similar size. See our van mobile tyre fitting service.

Mobile Fitting or a Garage?

For a standard daytime job, mobile fitting often costs about the same as a garage. The tyre is the same, and many mobile fitters include the call-out in the tyre price, while some of the national chains charge up to around £30 for a mobile slot. The equipment in a well-set-up van, including a tyre changer and balancer, does the same job as a workshop.

Mobile can cost more when you need someone straight away, late at night, or at a motorway hard shoulder or remote lay-by. In those cases you are paying for a fitter and a van to come to you at short notice.

It is often still worth it. If your tyre is flat you should not drive on it, so the alternatives are fitting a spare yourself, waiting for recovery, or paying for a tow to a garage. Mobile fitting also saves the time of a trip to a workshop and the wait while the job is done. Read more about our mobile tyre fitting service.

Hidden Costs to Ask About

A low headline price is not much use if extras are added at the end. Before you agree to a job, ask whether the quote includes:

  • the call-out or mobile fee, and any night or weekend surcharge;
  • a new valve for each tyre;
  • wheel balancing;
  • disposal of your old tyres;
  • TPMS work, if your car has tyre pressure sensors in the wheels, since a damaged sensor or valve can add a lot;
  • locking wheel nut removal, if you can’t find the key.

Have your locking wheel nut key ready before the fitter arrives. It is usually in the glovebox, the boot floor or with the spare wheel tools.

How to Get an Accurate Quote

The more a fitter knows up front, the closer the quote will be to the final bill. Have these ready:

  • Tyre size: printed on the sidewall, for example 205/55 R16 91V. Include the load and speed rating at the end.
  • Registration: lets the fitter check the right size and whether you have run-flats or TPMS.
  • Postcode: or a pin or what3words if you are at the roadside.
  • A photo: of the sidewall and of any damage, which helps show whether a repair is possible.

When a Repair Is Cheaper Than a New Tyre

A puncture repair typically costs £25 to £40, much less than any new tyre. Under the British Standard for tyre repairs, BS AU 159, a car tyre can be repaired if the damage is in the central three-quarters of the tread and the hole is no more than 6 mm across. The tyre must also come off the wheel so the inside can be checked, because driving on it while flat can damage it beyond repair.

Damage to the shoulder or sidewall, a larger hole, or a tyre that has been run flat means a replacement. Our guide on whether a tyre with a nail or screw can be repaired covers this in more detail. Run-flats have their own rules, explained in can run-flat tyres be repaired? If the tyre qualifies, we offer mobile tyre repair.
