Flat tyre in Greenford and need help now?
A tyre that lets go on Western Avenue at speed, a slow leak that leaves the car sagging outside your house in Greenford Green, a sidewall torn on a kerb on the way out of an industrial estate by the canal. None of these wait for opening hours, and neither do we. Call at any time of the day or night, on any day of the year, and we'll send the closest available fitter with a suitable tyre and everything needed to fit it on the spot.
We aim to reach you within 60 minutes in most cases. Traffic on the A40 and around Hanger Lane can change that, so we'll tell you honestly how long it's likely to be when you ring.
Pulling over safely on Western Avenue
The A40 through Greenford is a busy dual carriageway with fast slip roads and a flyover at the Greenford Roundabout, so a tyre failure here needs a calm head. Grip the wheel, ease off the accelerator and avoid braking hard. Then:
- If you can leave the A40 at the next slip road, do it slowly and stop in a side street well away from the junction, rather than on the slip road itself.
- If the car won't go any further, put the hazards on, get everyone out on the side away from the traffic and stand well back, behind a barrier if there is one. Don't try to change a wheel with traffic passing at speed.
- On the A4127 Greenford Road or in residential streets, pull in where you aren't blocking a bus stop, a junction or someone's drive.
If the tyre gave out heading west towards the M40 or the M25, the rules for motorways are different: our guide to a flat on the motorway sets them out.
Repair, replacement or recovery
In most cases the answer is a new tyre, fitted where you have stopped. Where the damage is a single small puncture in the central part of the tread and the tyre hasn't been driven on while flat, the fitter may be able to repair it to British Standard guidance. A nail or screw picked up near the trading estates is a typical example, and our article on whether a nail or screw can be repaired explains what decides it. If the car can't be worked on safely, perhaps stuck on a slip road or with a damaged wheel, we can organise breakdown recovery.
Replacement tyres come in budget, mid-range and premium ranges with the manufacturer's guarantee. Balancing the wheel and disposing of the old tyre are free, and there are no hidden fees.
Locking wheel nut adaptor: without it, the fitter can't remove the wheel. It often lives in the glovebox, a cubbyhole in the boot or with the jack. Have a look while you're waiting.
Why debris is a problem around here
Greenford has a lot of light industry and a lot of vans, and the dual carriageway collects whatever falls off them. Screws, bits of metal and broken glass end up on the inside lane and in the gutters of the slip roads, where they wait for a tyre. Often the puncture is slow, and the tyre only goes properly flat hours later, parked outside home or at work. If you notice a car pulling to one side or a soft-looking tyre, stop and check it rather than pressing on.
Our patch in and around UB6
We come out across Greenford, Greenford Green and the streets around the Broadway, plus Perivale, Northolt and Sudbury. That includes the A40 from the Hanger Lane gyratory out towards the Target roundabout at Northolt, the A4127 and the A312. Fitters also cover neighbouring Ealing, Southall and Wembley.
What we'll ask when you ring
- Exactly where the car is: the road, which direction you were heading, or a nearby landmark or postcode.
- What has gone wrong with the tyre, and whether the car has been driven on it since.
- The size from the tyre's sidewall, or the registration so we can look it up.
- Whether you are somewhere safe to wait.
