A burst or flat tyre near Epping

Around Epping, tyres tend to fail on roads where stopping is awkward. A blowout on the M11 just short of the Hastingwood interchange, a puncture on the forest stretch of the B1393 with trees close on both sides, or a car found flat in the station car park after the last train back from London. Call us, whatever the time. We're on the phone day and night, every day of the year, and the closest available fitter comes out with a replacement tyre and the tools to fit it on the spot.

We aim to reach you within 60 minutes in most cases, depending on where you are and the traffic around the junctions. We'll give you an honest idea of timing as soon as we know where the car is.

Waiting safely on motorway and forest roads

Before thinking about the tyre, get yourself and your passengers somewhere safe.

  • M11 and M25: move onto the hard shoulder, or into an emergency area if one comes first. Put the hazards on, leave the car by the left-hand doors and wait behind the barrier, up the bank if there is one. From an emergency area, or if you've stopped in a live lane, call National Highways on 0300 123 5000. Don't attempt the wheel change. Our guide to a flat on the motorway explains what happens next.
  • Through Epping Forest: the B1393 and the A121 near the Wake Arms roundabout have few lay-bys and no pavement on long stretches. If the car is still steering normally, crawl on with the hazards flashing to a junction, a car park entrance or a wide verge rather than stopping on a bend under the trees.
  • On the A414 towards North Weald: traffic moves quickly, so pull well off the carriageway and stand back from it, not beside the car.

Roadside replacement or a safe repair

Our fitter will usually change the tyre where the car stands, at the kerb, in a car park or on your drive. A puncture in the central part of the tread that hasn't been driven on flat can often be repaired to British Standard guidance instead. Cars on run-flat tyres are a little different, and our article on whether run-flat tyres can be repaired explains why. If the car is stuck somewhere unsafe or the rim is damaged, breakdown recovery can move it.

Tyres come in premium, mid-range and budget lines with the manufacturer's guarantee, and balancing and disposal of your old tyre are free with every fitting.

Wheel lock key: if your car has locking wheel nuts, the fitter will need the key. Look in the glovebox and under the boot floor while you wait, and tell us if it can't be found.

Late trains and a flat in the car park

A lot of people leave the car at Epping station all day and ride the Central line into London. Coming back late to a tyre sitting on the tarmac is a miserable way to end a long day, and by then the garages in town have closed. Don't try to drive it home to Coopersale or Theydon Bois on the flat, even slowly. A few hundred metres on an empty tyre can ruin it and mark the alloy. Give us a call with the car park and the rough position of the car, wait somewhere lit and warm, and we'll send a fitter to you.

If you noticed the tyre looking soft that morning, mention it. A slow leak caught early has a better chance of being repairable.

Villages, junctions and roads we reach

We cover the town, from the High Street out to the edge of the forest, and the villages around it, including Coopersale, Theydon Bois, Thornwood, Epping Green, Hastingwood, North Weald Bassett and Abridge, as well as Waltham Abbey and Loughton. Roads include the M11 at junction 7, the M25 at junctions 26 and 27, the A414, the A121 and the B1393. For planned tyre changes, see our Epping mobile tyre fitting page.

Further towards London, our fitters also work in Chingford and Enfield.

What we'll ask when you call

  1. Where you are, as precisely as you can: road, junction, car park, postcode or what3words.
  2. On the motorway, which direction you were heading and the last junction you passed.
  3. The size printed on the tyre wall, such as 225/45 R18, or your registration.
  4. What the tyre looks like and whether the car has run-flats.
