Emergency tyre fitting across Romford

A tyre that fails in Romford usually picks a fast road or a busy one. It could be a sudden blowout on the A127 Southend Arterial Road, a shredded tread on the A12 near Gallows Corner, or a front tyre that has quietly gone flat overnight on a street in Mawneys or Rush Green. Ring us at any hour and on any day. We answer through the night and at weekends, and send the nearest fitter who is free, carrying a replacement tyre and everything needed to fit it where the car is.

We aim to reach you within 60 minutes in most cases. East London traffic affects that, so we'll tell you honestly how long it's likely to be.

Where to stand while you wait

  • M25 around junction 28: steer onto the hard shoulder, or into an emergency area if that's nearer. Hazard lights on, then out of the car by the left-hand doors and behind the barrier. In an emergency area, or if you've ended up stuck in a live lane, phone National Highways on 0300 123 5000. Changing the wheel on the motorway isn't safe for anyone. Our motorway flat tyre guide takes you through it.
  • A12 and A127: both are fast dual carriageways with traffic close to the nearside. Keep rolling slowly with the hazards on until you can turn off into a slip road, service road or lay-by. If you have to stop, stand well back from the carriageway, not beside the car.
  • The ring road and town-centre streets: pull into a side road or a car park entrance rather than stopping in a running lane or at the lights.

Sorting the tyre at the kerbside

Most call-outs finish with a new tyre fitted on the spot. A puncture in the middle part of the tread, on a tyre that hasn't been driven flat, can often be repaired to British Standard guidance instead. If you've been topping a tyre up every few days, read our piece on slow punctures before it lets you down. When the car can't be worked on where it's stopped, our breakdown recovery service can move it.

We fit premium, mid-range and budget tyres for cars and vans, each covered by the manufacturer's guarantee, and balancing and removal of the old tyre are free.

Leave the nail where it is. If you can see a screw or nail in the tread, don't pull it out. It may be partly sealing the hole, and the fitter needs to see exactly where it went in to judge whether a repair is safe.

A late drive back along the A127

The A127 is how plenty of Romford drivers get home from Southend, Basildon and the coast, and late in the evening it can feel empty and very fast. If a tyre starts to thump or the car pulls to one side, don't brake hard. Hold the wheel straight, ease off the accelerator and let the speed fall before moving left. Then aim for the next junction or a lay-by rather than stopping on the narrow verge. Once you're off the main road and away from the traffic, call us with the junction you came off at.

Coming in on the A12 from Brentwood is much the same. At night the safest place to deal with a flat is usually a quiet road just off the dual carriageway, with street lights and room for the fitter to work.
