Flat or blowout in West Drayton? Call any time

West Drayton sits just north of the M4, close to junction 4 and the Heathrow spur, with the M25 running down its western side. Early-shift airport staff, cab drivers and delivery vans all pass through, so the roads are busy around the clock. A tyre can let go on the motorway, on Stockley Road heading for the business park, or on a residential street in Yiewsley at five in the morning before a flight. Ring us whatever the hour. We work 24/7, including weekends and bank holidays, and send the nearest available fitter with a replacement tyre to the car.

We aim to reach you within 60 minutes in most cases. Airport and motorway traffic can affect that, and we'll give you an honest estimate when you call. If you have a flight to catch, tell us your timings.

The M4 here has no hard shoulder

The M4 past West Drayton is part of the smart motorway between junctions 3 and 12, where the old hard shoulder now carries traffic and emergency areas are provided instead. If a tyre fails on it:

  • Steer into an emergency area if you can reach one safely, or leave at the next junction. Switch on the hazard lights.
  • If you stop, get out by the left-hand doors when it's safe and wait behind the barrier, well away from passing traffic.
  • Call National Highways on 0300 123 5000 from an emergency area or if you're stuck in a live lane, so they can close lanes or set signs. If you can't get out safely, stay belted in and call 999.
  • On the M25 near junctions 15 and 16, stop on the hard shoulder or in an emergency area, whichever you reach first, and follow the same steps.

Our guide to a motorway flat covers what to do in more detail.

Off the motorway: Stockley Road, the A4 and side streets

The A408 Stockley Road links the M4 at junction 4 with Yiewsley, Stockley Park and Uxbridge, and the A4 Bath Road runs past Harmondsworth and Sipson along the airport's edge. Both are busy with lorries and buses. If the car will roll slowly, turn into a side road or a car park rather than stopping in the carriageway. In residential streets, pull in clear of junctions and keep the hazards on.

Coming back from a trip to find a flat in an airport car park or on your own street is a common situation. Don't inflate it at a petrol station and drive off without checking. A tyre that has sat flat for days can be damaged inside, even if it looks fine from the outside, so let the fitter take a proper look before you set off home with luggage on board.

Replace, repair or recover

The fitter will usually swap the damaged tyre for a new one at the kerb or in the car park. If the puncture is small and in the central tread, and the tyre hasn't been driven while flat, a repair to British Standard guidance may be possible. Screws and metal from the industrial sites around here are a common cause, and our article on the signs of a slow puncture explains what to watch for. Where the car can't be worked on safely, such as on a slip road, we'll arrange breakdown recovery.

You can choose budget, mid-range or premium tyres, all carrying the manufacturer's guarantee. Balancing and removal of the old tyre cost nothing extra.

Check for a locking nut key: hire cars and newer cars often have locking wheel nuts. The key is usually in the glovebox or with the tool kit. Have it to hand so the fitter can get the wheel off.
