Most cars have two sets of recommended pressures, one for normal driving and a higher one for a full load. You'll find them on the sticker inside the driver's door or the fuel flap, or in the handbook.
Running a heavily loaded car on normal pressures makes the tyres flex more, heat up and wear faster, especially on a long motorway run down the M5. Pump them up to the full-load figure before you set off, with the tyres cold, and put them back to normal once you've unpacked. If you're towing a caravan or trailer, check its tyres too, including the age of the rubber.
