Small City, Busy Through Roads
Wells is a cathedral city on the southern edge of the Mendip Hills, small enough to cross on foot but sitting on two busy A roads. The A39 runs through on its way between Bath and Glastonbury, Street and Bridgwater, and the A371 links Wells with Shepton Mallet in one direction and Weston-super-Mare in the other. Since the bypass was built, most of that through traffic skirts the centre, leaving quieter streets in town and plenty of fast roads around it.
Get a puncture on any of them and you can stay put. We'll send a mobile fitter carrying the tyre you need to fit it where the car is, whether that's outside your home, in a city car park or in a gateway on a lane up the hill. We take calls 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and aim to have someone with you within 60 minutes in most cases.
The Benefits of Calling a Mobile Fitter
- No driving on a flat. Running even a short way on a deflated tyre can ruin it and damage the wheel. We come to the car instead.
- A fitter close by. The job goes to the nearest of our 100+ fitters across England and Wales.
- Extras included. Balancing and disposal of the old tyre are free, and new tyres carry the manufacturer's guarantee.
- Straightforward payment. Competitive prices with no hidden fees, paid by cash, card or bank transfer once the work is done.
Services for Wells and the Mendip Villages
Most calls are for mobile tyre fitting, with premium, mid-range and budget tyres available for most cars. If you've picked up a screw, we'll look at puncture repair first: when the hole is small and in the central three-quarters of the tread, a repair is often the sensible option.
We also fit tyres for vans and light commercials through our van tyre service, useful for anyone delivering or working on sites around the city. When a car can't be fixed at the roadside, we provide breakdown recovery.
Where You'll Find Our Fitters
We cover the city centre and every residential area of Wells, plus the villages around it, including Wookey Hole a mile to the north-west. Our fitters travel the A39 and A371 and the lanes that climb onto the Mendip Hills, and we reach Glastonbury and Street to the south.
Close by, we also serve Shepton Mallet, Bridgwater and Weston-super-Mare.
Broken down on a lane with high hedges and no verge? Stay with the car only if it's safe to, otherwise wait in a field gateway or another spot well away from passing traffic. Give us the nearest village or farm name, and keep your phone switched on so the fitter can ring if they need directions.
Find Out Whether Your Car Has a Spare
Plenty of newer cars come without a spare wheel. In its place there may be a can of sealant and a small compressor, or run-flat tyres that let you drive a limited distance at reduced speed after a puncture. Lots of drivers only discover which they have when they lift the boot floor at the side of the road.
Have a look now. If there's a sealant kit, check the expiry date on the can, because old sealant may not work. Bear in mind that sealant only copes with small holes in the tread and can make a later repair harder, so tell the fitter if you've used it. If you have run-flats, read the handbook for the distance and speed allowed, and don't push past them.
