Roadside tyre rescue in Walsall
Walsall sits right against the M6, with junctions 7, 9 and 10 all serving the borough, and a lot of local driving is short hops between Bloxwich, Willenhall, Darlaston and Aldridge with the motorway in between. A tyre can fail on any of those trips, or overnight on a works van parked on an industrial estate. Call us as soon as it happens, whatever the time. We're on the phone 24/7, every day of the year, and the nearest available fitter will come out with a replacement and fit it where the vehicle is.
We aim to reach you within 60 minutes in most cases. Location and traffic, particularly on the M6, affect that, and we'll give you a sensible estimate when you ring.
If it happens on the M6 between junctions 7 and 10
The M6 past Walsall is part of the smart motorway that runs from junction 4 to junction 10a. Here's what to do:
- Use the hard shoulder if it's open to you, otherwise an emergency area, or leave at the next junction if the car will get there slowly.
- Turn on the hazard lights and get everyone out through the left-hand doors.
- Wait behind the barrier, not beside or behind the vehicle.
- From an emergency area, or if you're stopped in a live lane, call National Highways on 0300 123 5000.
- If getting out isn't safe, stay inside with seatbelts on and hazards flashing, and dial 999.

Off the motorway: the A454, A34 and the ring road
The A454 from junction 10 towards Willenhall and Wolverhampton is busy and fast. If a tyre goes there, keep going gently to a side road or a lay-by rather than stopping in a lane. The same applies on the A34 through Bloxwich and the A461 out to Brownhills. On the town's ring road, take the next exit and pull into a quieter street or car park. Wherever you stop, wait on the pavement or verge away from the traffic.
Vans that can't stay off the road
Much of Walsall's traffic is trade and delivery vans working out of the industrial estates, and a flat on a loaded van can wipe out a day's jobs. We fit van and light commercial tyres at the roadside or on site, with the right load rating for the vehicle. Tell us it's a van when you call, give us the full size from the sidewall including the load index if you can read it, and let us know if it's loaded, so the fitter brings the correct tyre.
If the van is parked in a yard or on an estate overnight, we can come to it there before the working day starts, so it's ready when the driver arrives.
Repair or replace: how the fitter decides
On arrival the fitter checks the damage. A puncture in the central three-quarters of the tread, under 6 mm and on a tyre that hasn't been run flat, can usually be repaired under British Standard guidance. Anything else is replaced on the spot with a premium, mid-range or budget tyre carrying the manufacturer's guarantee. Balancing and disposing of the old tyre are included free. If there's a screw in it, our guide on whether a tyre with a nail or screw can be repaired explains the rules.
If the vehicle is somewhere it can't safely be worked on, or a wheel is damaged, breakdown recovery can move it first.
Locking nut key: on cars and many vans, the wheel won't come off without it. It's usually in the glovebox, the door pocket or the tool kit.
