Leamington flat tyre? We'll come out now

In Leamington the trouble usually shows up in one of two ways. Either you walk out to a car parked on a Regency street and find a tyre sitting on its rim, or something goes bang on the A452 on the run back from the M40. Neither waits for a convenient moment. Whenever it happens, call us: the phone is staffed around the clock, every day, and the nearest available fitter drives out with a tyre that matches yours and fits it where the car is.

We aim to arrive within 60 minutes in most cases. Exactly how long depends on your location and the traffic, and we'll tell you honestly when you call.

Junction 13 or junction 14? Why it matters

The A452 leaves the south of Leamington on two separate spurs: one to junction 13 of the M40 for southbound traffic, one to junction 14 for northbound. If you've broken down near the motorway, tell us which spur or junction you used and which way you're facing. It saves time, because a fitter sent to the wrong carriageway may have a long way round to reach you.

Found it flat outside the house?

If the tyre went down overnight on your street in Milverton or Lillington, leave the car where it is. Driving even a short way to a garage on a flat tyre can crush the sidewall and turn a simple repair into a replacement, and it can mark the wheel too. A fitter can work at the kerb as long as there's a reasonably level spot beside the flat wheel, so you can stay indoors and carry on with your morning while you wait.

Waiting safely off the M40, the A46 and the A452

  • On the M40: pull onto the hard shoulder or into an emergency area, put the hazards on and get out through the left-hand doors. Stand behind the barrier, up the bank if there is one. If you're in an emergency area or stranded in a live lane, ring National Highways on 0300 123 5000. If it isn't safe to get out, stay in the car with seatbelts on and hazards flashing, and call 999. See our motorway flat tyre guide for more.
  • On the A46 towards Kenilworth and Coventry: it's a fast dual carriageway. Ease off, keep left and take the next exit or lay-by instead of stopping in the inside lane.
  • On the A452 or A425 in town: turn into a side road or a car park where you aren't blocking traffic, and wait on the pavement.

Sorting the tyre where the car stands

Our fitter examines the tyre first. If there's a nail or screw in the central three-quarters of the tread, the hole is under 6 mm and the tyre hasn't been driven on flat, it can usually be repaired following British Standard guidance; our article on whether a tyre with a nail or screw can be repaired explains the rules. If it can't be saved, a new tyre goes on from our premium, mid-range or budget ranges, with the manufacturer's guarantee. Balancing and taking the old tyre away are both free.

On a motorway emergency area, or where the car has stopped on a narrow, busy stretch, it may not be safe to work. Our breakdown recovery can then take it somewhere better.

Don't forget the locking nut key: check the glovebox or the boot tray for it now. If it's lost, let us know on the phone so the fitter comes prepared.

When you ring, we'll ask for:

  1. Your street and postcode, or the road number, junction and direction if you're out of town.
  2. The size printed on the tyre's sidewall, for instance 205/60 R16, or your registration.
  3. What happened: a sudden bang, a gradual leak or a dashboard warning.
  4. Whether you're somewhere safe while you wait.
