A Mobile Tyre Service Built for Halifax Hills
Few towns make you use your handbrake as much as Halifax. Streets climb sharply out of the centre towards Ovenden, Illingworth and Southowram, and the main roads follow the valleys: the A629 north towards Keighley and south past Salterhebble to the Elland bypass and the M62, the A58 west through Sowerby Bridge and east through Hipperholme, and the A646 west to Hebden Bridge. When a tyre fails on any of them, our fitters come out to you.
Hills are hard on tyres in their own way. Constant climbing and braking scrubs the tread, and tight parking on narrow streets means sidewalls take knocks against the kerb. A bulge or a cut in the sidewall can't be repaired, and it isn't something to drive on for long, so it pays to get it replaced soon after you spot it.
It's a 24-hour service, every day, and in most cases we aim to get a fitter to you within 60 minutes. On the busier stretches at peak times, or if you're high up on the moor edge, allow a little longer.
What Happens Once You've Called
The first thing we need is your location, as precisely as you can give it. After that, a few details about the car and the tyre size (the string of numbers on the sidewall, such as 205/55 R16) let us bring the correct tyre.
- The nearest available fitter from our network of 100+ across England and Wales takes the job.
- The fitter repairs or replaces the tyre where the car is, then balances the wheel free of charge.
- Your old tyre goes away with the fitter for disposal, also free.
- You pay by card, cash or bank transfer. The price you agree is the price you pay.
Tyre Work We Do Across Halifax
- Mobile tyre fitting: budget, mid-range and premium tyres, all with the manufacturer's guarantee, fitted outside your home in King Cross or Skircoat Green or wherever you've parked.
- Puncture repair: we repair rather than replace whenever British Standard guidance allows it, which means a small hole in the central tread area.
- Van tyres: light commercial tyres fitted for builders, plumbers and delivery drivers working the Calderdale hills.
- Breakdown recovery: for a wheel that's cracked or buckled, or a car stranded somewhere too narrow or steep to work on safely.
Halifax Districts and the Calderdale Towns Around Them
We cover Ovenden, Illingworth, Mixenden, Northowram, Southowram, Shelf, King Cross, Skircoat Green and Warley, and follow the A58 out to Sowerby Bridge and Ripponden. Along the A646 we go up to Hebden Bridge and Todmorden.
To the east and south we reach Brighouse and Huddersfield, and to the north Bradford and, up the A629, Keighley.
Parked on a Slope With a Flat? Read This First
Changing a wheel on a steep street is where most DIY tyre changes go wrong. A car on a jack can roll or slip if it isn't held properly, and on some Halifax gradients that's a real risk. If you're tempted to fit the spare yourself, put the handbrake on firmly, leave a manual in gear or an automatic in park, and turn the front wheels into the kerb.
Never get any part of your body under a car that's only on the jack. If the slope looks too much or the ground is soft, leave it: our fitters carry proper equipment for awkward spots and can judge whether it's safe to do the job where you are or better to move the car first.
