A Mobile Tyre Service Built Around Gloucester's Roads

Tread Depth and the Severn Vale Rain
The low ground around Gloucester gets its share of standing water after heavy rain, and worn tyres are far worse at clearing it. The legal minimum is 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tread, but grip in the wet drops off well before that.
A quick way to check is the 20p test: push the coin into the main grooves. If you can see the outer band of the coin, the tread is getting low and it's time to think about new tyres. Check all four, including the inside edge, which wears faster if the tracking is out and is easy to miss when you only look from the kerb.
If you do have to drive through surface water, slow right down beforehand rather than braking in it, and avoid anything deep enough to reach the bottom of the doors. Once you're through, test the brakes gently, and keep an eye out for any steering pull afterwards that might mean a tyre has picked up damage.
