A Mobile Tyre Service for Gateshead's Hills and Bypasses
Gateshead climbs steeply from the riverside, and the land keeps rising from the quays through the town centre to Sheriff Hill. Add the A1 cutting along the western edge, the Central Motorway running across from Newcastle and the A184 heading east, and you get a town where short local trips and fast through-traffic share the same few miles.
When a tyre lets you down here, there is no need to limp up a bank on a flat or wait for a tow. Our fitters come to the car with the tyre and the kit, day or night, seven days a week. In most cases we aim to arrive within 60 minutes, depending on where you are and how busy the roads are.
Why Gateshead Drivers Call a Fitter Out
Many people only realise how useful a mobile fitter is after the first time. Instead of losing half a day, you stay put, at home in Bensham, at work on the Team Valley or in a car park near the town centre, and the work happens around you.
- Ring or message us with your location and, if you can see it, the tyre size on the sidewall.
- We dispatch a nearby technician from a network of over 100 mobile fitters across England and Wales.
- The tyre is repaired or replaced where you are, with balancing and disposal of the old tyre thrown in free.
Every new tyre has the manufacturer's guarantee, and you settle up by card, cash or bank transfer at the end. The price you agree is the price you pay.
Tyre Work We Carry Out in Gateshead
- Mobile tyre fitting: a worn or damaged tyre swapped on your driveway in Low Fell or on a residential street in Deckham, with budget, mid-range and premium brands available.
- Puncture repairs: screws and nails picked up around building sites and industrial estates are common; if the hole sits in the repairable zone, we fix it instead of replacing the tyre.
- Van and light commercial tyres: business units on the Team Valley keep plenty of vans busy, and we can fit tyres on site so the vehicle is back on the road quickly.
- Breakdown recovery: for a bent rim, a car stuck in a dangerous spot, or anything a roadside fitting cannot safely fix.
Gateshead Districts and the Roads Around Them
Our coverage takes in the town centre, Bensham, Saltwell, Deckham, Sheriff Hill, Low Fell, Wrekenton, Felling, Heworth and Dunston, as well as Whickham, Blaydon and Birtley further out. On the main roads, we attend call-outs on the A1, the A184 and the A167 as well as the approaches to the Tyne bridges.
Across the river, Newcastle is close by, and to the south and east we also go out to Washington, Chester-le-Street and South Shields.
Hill Starts, Wet Banks and Tread Depth
Gateshead's steep streets put tread depth to the test. On a wet or frosty morning, a car with worn tyres can spin its wheels pulling away uphill and take noticeably longer to stop going down. The legal minimum is 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tread, but grip in the wet falls away well before that.
Look at the tread wear indicators, the small raised bars inside the main grooves. Once the tread is close to level with them, start planning replacements rather than waiting for winter. Front tyres on front-wheel-drive cars usually wear faster, so check them separately from the rears.
