When the Tyre Pressure Warning Light Comes On
Most cars built in the last decade or so have a tyre pressure monitoring system, and its amber light (a horseshoe shape with an exclamation mark) is easy to ignore. Don't. It means at least one tyre has lost a noticeable amount of air.
Slow down, and when it is safe, stop and look at all four tyres. If one is obviously flat, don't drive any further on it. If they all look fine, check the pressures with a gauge against the figures in the handbook or on the door pillar. A tyre that needs topping up again within a few days almost certainly has a slow puncture. Some systems also need resetting after the pressures have been corrected; your handbook will explain how.
