Stranded with a damaged tyre near Brackley?

Brackley sits on the A43, the dual carriageway that carries traffic between the M40 and Northamptonshire, so many tyre emergencies here happen at speed. Others start on the A422 towards Buckingham or Banbury, or on the quieter roads out to Evenley and Turweston where there's no street lighting. Whenever it happens, call us. Our line is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and we send the nearest available fitter with a replacement tyre to where you've stopped.

In most cases we aim to reach you within 60 minutes. Location, traffic and the hour all affect that, so we'll give you a realistic estimate on the phone.

Stopping safely on the A43 and the M40

The A43 is fast and busy, especially on race weekends when traffic heads for Silverstone. If you feel a tyre go:

  • Hold the steering wheel firmly, ease off the accelerator and avoid braking hard.
  • Aim for the next lay-by, slip road or roundabout exit, as long as you can get there slowly and safely.
  • If you have to stop on the verge, switch on the hazard lights, get out on the side away from traffic and wait behind the barrier or well back from the road.
  • If you reach the M40 at junction 10, use the hard shoulder or an emergency area, leave by the left-hand doors and wait behind the barrier. From an emergency area or a live lane, call National Highways on 0300 123 5000.

Our step-by-step motorway guide is worth reading before a long trip.

Away from the dual carriageway, the lanes linking Brackley with the surrounding villages are narrow and dark at night. If a tyre goes there, find a gateway or a wider stretch of verge, keep your lights on so other drivers can see the car, and wait off the road. Tell us roughly how far you are from the last village you passed, which helps the fitter find you without driving up and down looking.

New tyre, repair or recovery

Most call-outs end with a fresh tyre fitted at the side of the road or on your drive. If the damage is a small hole in the central tread and the tyre hasn't been run flat, the fitter may repair it to British Standard guidance instead. When the car has stopped somewhere too exposed to work on, we can arrange breakdown recovery to move it first.

Budget, mid-range and premium tyres are all available, with the manufacturer's guarantee on every one. Balancing and disposal of the old tyre come free.

Locking wheel nuts: please find the key before the fitter arrives. Check the glovebox, the centre console and the space around the spare wheel well.

Run-flat tyres on longer journeys

Plenty of drivers here cover long distances on the A43 and the M40, and many newer cars come with run-flat tyres and no spare. A run-flat lets you keep going a limited distance at reduced speed after a puncture, but it isn't a fix. Once the warning appears, slow down and arrange help rather than carrying on for miles. Whether a run-flat can be repaired depends on the damage and the manufacturer's advice; our article on repairing run-flat tyres explains more.

On a car with ordinary tyres and only a sealant kit, the same principle applies. Sealant may help with a small nail hole for a short distance, but it won't seal a cut sidewall, and it is no substitute for having the tyre checked properly. If in doubt, stay where you are and let the fitter assess it.

Places we reach from Brackley

We cover the town and the villages around it, including Evenley, Turweston and Silverstone, along with the A43, the A422 and the M40 around junctions 10 and 11. We're also out regularly in Buckingham, Banbury and Bicester.

What to tell us, then call

  1. Where the car is: the road, the direction you were travelling, the nearest roundabout or village, or a what3words location.
  2. What has happened, whether a blowout, a puncture, a bulge or a pressure warning.
  3. The size printed on the tyre wall, such as 225/50 R17, or your registration.
  4. Whether you are off the carriageway and safe.

Then ring 07989 606060 at any hour, or message us on WhatsApp. We'll tell you the price before the fitter sets off, and there are no hidden fees. To book a fitting that isn't urgent, see mobile tyre fitting in Brackley.
