Tyre Call-Outs Along Watling Street in Towcester
Towcester is one of the oldest continuously lived-in towns in the country, the Roman settlement of Lactodurum on Watling Street. That same road, now the A5, still runs straight through the town centre, while the A43 bypasses it to the north on its way between the M1 and the M40. Silverstone village is about three and a half miles to the south-south-west, reached along the A43, with the motor racing circuit close by.
Between commuters, lorries, local traffic and race-day crowds, these roads get heavy use, and that is where a lot of tyre problems turn up. Instead of trying to reach a garage on a damaged tyre, call us and a mobile fitter will come to you with the tyre and the tools. We're on call day and night, seven days a week, and normally aim to reach you within an hour, subject to traffic and your exact location.
Our Towcester Call-Out, Step by Step
- Ring or message with the details. Where you are, what's wrong, and if possible the size on the tyre's sidewall.
- We find the nearest fitter. Our network of more than 100 mobile fitters runs across England and Wales, so we send someone working near South Northamptonshire.
- Your tyre is dealt with there and then. Repaired if safe, replaced if not, with free balancing and free removal of the old tyre. New ones carry the manufacturer's guarantee.
- Settle up afterwards. Pay by card, cash or bank transfer, and there are no hidden fees.
Tyre Services for the Towcester Area
- Mobile tyre fitting: budget, mid-range or premium tyres fitted at home in town, in a village, or at your workplace.
- Puncture repair: a small hole in the central tread can usually be repaired safely; a tyre that's been run flat or holed near the edge will need replacing.
- Van tyres: for couriers and trades using the A5 and A43 every day, where a van off the road soon means missed drops.
- Breakdown recovery: for a damaged wheel or a car that has stopped somewhere unsafe on a busy dual carriageway.
Towcester, Greens Norton and Further Afield
We cover the town itself and the A5 and A43 around it, plus the villages of the surrounding countryside: Greens Norton just beyond the edge of town, Blakesley on its hilltop to the west of the A5, Abthorpe, Wappenham, Litchborough and Maidford, as well as Silverstone village.
Fitters on this patch also cover Northampton to the north and Brackley further down the A43. South along Watling Street we reach Stony Stratford and the rest of Milton Keynes.
The 20p Test Before a Long Run
Plenty of drivers here head off on longer journeys up the A43 to the M1, or down towards the M40, and the time to find out your tread is low is before you set off, not when the car aquaplanes in heavy rain.
Slot a 20p coin into the main grooves of the tread at several points around each tyre. If you can see the outer band of the coin, the tread may be near or below the 1.6mm legal minimum and should be checked properly. Do the test across the width, because tyres often wear more on one edge. While you're at it, look for anything stuck in the tread and check pressures with the tyres cold.
If the coin suggests you're close to the limit, don't wait for the next service. Low tread mainly hurts you in the wet, when stopping distances stretch and standing water on the dual carriageway can lift the car off the road surface.
