Much of Cambridgeshire is flat fenland, with long straight roads, deep drainage ditches alongside and few places to pull over. The A14 is the main east–west route, linking Huntingdon and Cambridge, and it carries a lot of lorry traffic heading for the east coast ports. The A1(M) runs past Peterborough in the north, and the M11 ends just outside Cambridge.
