Getting Ely Drivers Back on the Road
Two roads shape most journeys in and out of Ely. The A10 runs south to Cambridge through Stretham, Waterbeach and Milton, and north towards Littleport; it's the main commuter route for the city and it's often busy at peak times. The A142 crosses it heading east to Soham and Newmarket and west through Witchford, Sutton and Mepal to Chatteris. Since 2018 the A142 southern bypass has also let drivers avoid the old hold-ups at the level crossing by the station.
Wherever you are when a tyre lets you down, a mobile fitter can come to you. We work through the day and night, every day, and in most cases we aim to be with you within the hour, depending on where you are and the traffic on the way.
A Call-Out, Step by Step
- You contact us by phone, WhatsApp or the website and tell us where the car is and what's happened to the tyre.
- We allocate a fitter. Our network covers England and Wales with over 100 mobile fitters, so we send whoever can reach Ely soonest.
- The fitter fixes it where you are. A repair if the tyre is safe to repair, a replacement if not. Balancing and old-tyre disposal are included free.
- You pay once it's done. Card, cash or bank transfer. New tyres come with the manufacturer's guarantee and the bill has no hidden fees.
Services on Offer in Ely
For a straightforward replacement, our mobile tyre fitting service brings budget, mid-range or premium tyres to your home or workplace, whether that's in the city or out at Lancaster Way Business Park.
Many punctures don't need a new tyre. Our puncture repair fixes damage in the central tread up to 6 mm across, in line with British Standard guidance.
Our van tyre service helps farm businesses, builders and couriers who rely on their vans, and breakdown recovery is there for vehicles that can't be fixed on site.
The City, Nearby Villages and Neighbouring Towns
Our fitters cover the whole of Ely and the villages around it, including Witchford, Little Thetford, Stretham, Sutton and Littleport. Along the A142 we also reach Soham, Mepal and Chatteris.
Down the A10 we serve Cambridge, and the A142 brings us to Newmarket. Heading north on the A10, our fitters also cover King's Lynn.
Much of the land around the city is open farmland with long stretches between villages, so if you're stopped on a quiet road, a nearby junction, farm entrance or road sign is the most useful thing to tell us.
Tip: Check Your Tread Before the Winter Commute
The legal minimum tread depth for a car in the UK is 1.6 mm across the central three-quarters of the tyre, all the way round. That's the minimum, not a target. As tread wears down, the tyre clears water less effectively and stopping distances in the wet get longer, which matters on open roads where rain and spray arrive with little warning.
A quick test is to push a 20p coin into the main grooves. If you can see the outer band of the coin, the tread is getting close to the limit and it's time to think about replacements. Most tyres also have small wear bars moulded into the grooves; when the tread is level with them, the tyre needs changing.
Call Out a Tyre Fitter in Ely
Ring 07989 606060 at any time, or send us a WhatsApp message or contact form. We'll need your location, the car's registration and the tyre size from the sidewall.
If you're calling from a lay-by or verge on the A10, keep well back from the traffic while you wait. Lorries and commuter cars pass close and fast on that road, and there's nothing to be gained by standing next to the car.
