Whitehaven is a harbour town on the Cumbrian coast, close to the edge of the Lake District National Park, and parts of it, such as Kells on its clifftop overlooking the Irish Sea, sit well above the harbour. Some residential streets around Whitehaven climb steeply, and a puncture often shows up with the car parked on a hill. Changing a wheel on a gradient is risky: even with the handbrake on and in gear, a car lifted on the small jack from the boot can shift or roll as the wheel comes off.

If you're on a slope, leave the jack where it is. Turn the front wheels towards the kerb, make sure the handbrake is firmly on and call us. Our fitters bring their own equipment for lifting the car and securing it before any wheel comes off, which is a much safer way to deal with a flat on a hill. If the car is somewhere too steep or narrow to work on safely, we'll tell you and arrange for it to be moved.
