Scarborough is built around two bays, with steep roads climbing from the seafront up to the town and its suburbs. Three main routes lead out: the A64 inland to Malton and York, the A165 down the coast to Filey and Bridlington, and the A171 north to Whitby. In summer those roads fill with visitors; for the rest of the year it is mainly locals commuting, doing the school run or heading inland for work.

1. You contact us with your location and the problem. If you can, read the size off the sidewall, for example 205/55 R16.

Living by the sea is hard on cars. Salty air and spray speed up corrosion, and two places it often shows is on alloy wheels where the tyre seals against the rim, and on the metal parts of tyre valves. Either can let air seep out slowly, so the tyre goes soft over a few days with no nail or cut to be seen.

If a tyre keeps losing pressure and you cannot find a puncture, mention it when you call. The fitter can check the valve and the bead, clean up a corroded rim where possible and reseal the tyre. Washing the wheels now and then, especially after winter when the roads have been gritted, also helps slow the corrosion down.
