Emergency tyre call-outs in Didcot

Didcot's traffic funnels through a handful of busy routes. The A4130 links the town to the A34 at the Milton Interchange, the A34 itself runs north to Abingdon and Oxford and south towards Newbury, and roads out to Harwell and Milton Park carry a steady stream of commuters at all hours. A tyre that blows on the A34 at night, one that goes flat in Great Western Park on a Sunday, or one that's soft when you leave work late at Harwell all need the same thing: a fitter who comes to you. Call us whenever it happens. We're available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and send the nearest free fitter with a tyre.

In most cases we aim to reach you within 60 minutes. Traffic around the Milton Interchange can affect that, and we'll be honest about timing when you call.

A blowout on the A34: what to do

The A34 is a fast dual carriageway, used by a lot of lorries. If a tyre fails on it:

  • Keep hold of the steering and let the car slow down on its own before you brake lightly. Hard braking on a burst tyre can pull the car sideways.
  • Head for the next slip road or lay-by with your hazards on, at a crawl if needed. Don't stop in a running lane unless the car won't go any further.
  • When you've stopped, get out on the side away from traffic and wait behind the barrier or well up the verge. Keep children and pets with you.
  • If you're stuck in a lane and can't safely leave the car, stay in with seat belts fastened and the hazards on, and phone 999.

Our motorway flat tyre guide covers similar ground and is worth reading before a long journey on fast roads.

The A4130, roadworks and the estates

The A4130 between the Milton Interchange and the town has been part of a major scheme to widen it to a dual carriageway and connect it to a new bridge over the railway, so lanes and junctions there may be laid out differently from before. If a tyre goes in a section with roadworks, follow the temporary signs and carry on slowly to a place with room to pull clear. On the estate roads in Ladygrove, Great Western Park and Valley Park, park where you won't block a junction or a bus route and where the fitter can get to the damaged wheel without standing in the road.

The fix: repaired, replaced or recovered

The fitter inspects the tyre before suggesting anything. If it has a small puncture in the main part of the tread, 6 mm or less, and hasn't been driven flat, a repair to British Standard guidance may be possible. If the damage is more serious, a new tyre is fitted at the roadside from premium, mid-range or budget ranges, all with the manufacturer's guarantee, with free balancing and free removal of the old tyre. If the car is in a spot where work isn't safe, we can arrange breakdown recovery.

Warning light on, tyres look fine? The pressure may still be low. Find out what the tyre pressure warning light means, and keep your locking wheel nut key handy in case the fitter needs to take the wheel off.

Covering Didcot and the Science Vale

We come out to the town centre, Ladygrove, Great Western Park and Valley Park, Milton Park and Harwell Campus, and to nearby villages including Harwell, Milton, Sutton Courtenay, East Hagbourne and Blewbury. On the roads we cover the A34 around the Milton Interchange, the A4130 and the A417. Nearby towns with their own pages include Abingdon, Wallingford and Wantage.

On the call, we'll want to know

  1. Your location, with a road and direction, or the business park and car park name if you're at work.
  2. The tyre size on the sidewall, such as 205/55 R17, or the registration.
  3. What happened and whether the tyre has been driven on while flat.
  4. Whether you're somewhere safe to wait.
