Emergency tyre help around Ashford
Some tyre failures announce themselves with a bang on the M20 between junctions 9 and 10. Others are quieter: a car left at Ashford International all day that comes back with one corner on the ground, or a sidewall cut on a flint on the A28 towards Wye just after dark. Either way, ring us. We answer around the clock, seven days a week, and send the closest available fitter with a tyre in your size and the equipment to fit it where the car has stopped.
We aim to reach you within 60 minutes in most cases, depending on your location and the traffic. When you call we'll tell you what to expect rather than guess.
Motorway, dual carriageway or lane: where to wait
- On the M20: get the car onto the hard shoulder or into an emergency area, hazard lights on. Leave through the left-hand doors, climb the verge and wait behind the barrier. If you're in an emergency area or have come to a stop in a live lane, call National Highways on 0300 123 5000. Don't attempt to swap the wheel on the motorway. Our motorway puncture advice covers the reasons.
- When Operation Brock is running: traffic between junctions 8 and 9 is squeezed into a contraflow behind barriers, leaving little room to stop. If the car is still under control, keep going gently to the next exit.
- On the A2070 or the A28 and A20 out of town: these are quick roads with patchy verges. Slow down, look for a lay-by, a side turning or a farm entrance, and get everyone out on the side away from the traffic.
Once you've stopped, avoid moving the car on the flat tyre. Rolling even a short way on the rim can turn a simple repair into a new tyre and a damaged wheel.
How we sort it on the spot
The fitter will normally take off the damaged tyre and put a new one on there and then. If it's a clean puncture in the central part of the tread and the tyre hasn't been driven flat, a British Standard repair is often possible instead. A car stuck somewhere too exposed to work on, or with a buckled rim, can be moved with our breakdown recovery service.
We carry premium, mid-range and budget options for cars and vans, every one covered by the manufacturer's guarantee. Balancing and disposal of your old tyre are included at no charge.
A puncture after dark on the roads out of town
Beyond the ring of new estates, the roads around Ashford get dark and narrow quickly. The A20 towards Charing, the A28 through Wye and the lanes down towards Hamstreet have long unlit stretches where a car stopped on the verge is hard for other drivers to see. If a tyre goes out there, put the hazards on straight away, leave the sidelights on, and get everyone out and well back from the road, ideally behind a gate or a hedge line. Wear something light-coloured if you have it in the car.
Resist the temptation to fit a space-saver on a blind bend or to keep driving to the next village on a tyre that has lost its air. If the low-pressure light came on before anything felt wrong, our article on the tyre pressure warning light explains what the symbol is telling you.
Check for the wheel lock key. Many cars have one locking nut per wheel. The key is often in the glovebox or with the jack under the boot floor, and unpacking a full boot to find it is far easier before the fitter arrives.

- For the M20, the direction you're travelling and the last junction you passed.
- The tyre size from the sidewall, such as 225/50 R17, or your registration.
