Tyre Help in the Port Town of Dover
Two trunk roads funnel almost everything into Dover. The A2 comes in from Canterbury past Whitfield, where it meets the A256 from Sandwich and Thanet, and the A20 arrives from the M20 at Folkestone through the Roundhill Tunnel. Both carry heavy freight bound for the ferries, and when the Channel crossings are disrupted, schemes like Operation Brock and the Dover TAP queue on the A20 can leave cars sitting among lorries for long stretches.
Away from the port traffic, local driving is a mix of the town centre, the estates in Buckland and Tower Hamlets, and the villages to the north such as River and Temple Ewell. Wherever a puncture catches you, one of our mobile fitters can come out and deal with it on the spot, at any hour. We aim to arrive within 60 minutes in most cases, but port congestion can affect that, and we'll be straight with you about timing when you call.
What You Get When We Come Out
- A fitter from nearby: we're a network of more than 100 mobile fitters across England and Wales, and we send whoever is closest to Dover.
- Repair if it's safe, replace if not: the fitter checks the damage before deciding.
- No extras for the basics: balancing and disposal of your old tyre are free with every fitting.
- Guaranteed tyres: new tyres come with the manufacturer's guarantee.
- Simple payment: card, cash or bank transfer, at a price confirmed beforehand and with no hidden fees.
Dover Tyre Services at a Glance
- Mobile tyre fitting: tyres in a range of brands and price points, fitted at your home in River or Whitfield or at your workplace near the docks.
- Puncture repair: small holes within the central tread can be repaired to British Standard guidance, which saves buying a tyre you don't need.
- Van tyres: for van drivers whose working day revolves around the port and the A2 corridor, where an off-road van costs money by the hour, so we fit the replacement wherever the van has stopped.
- Breakdown recovery: when the wheel itself is damaged, or the car is somewhere on the A2 or A20 where working on it isn't safe.
Across Dover and Its Northern Villages
Our fitters cover the town centre, Buckland, Tower Hamlets, Maxton and Charlton, with River, Kearsney, Temple Ewell and Whitfield on the northern side. We attend on the A2, the A20, and the A256 as it heads up towards Sandwich.
Along the coast we also cover Folkestone, and inland drivers can find us on the Canterbury page. Further north on the A256, our Ramsgate fitters look after Thanet.
A Flat Among the Lorries: Stay Safe First
Getting a puncture in slow port traffic, with lorries close on both sides, is different from a flat on a quiet street. Trying to change a wheel yourself in a narrow lane or a contraflow is risky, as there's little room and large vehicles may not see you crouched by the car.
If a tyre goes, put your hazard lights on and, if you can do it safely, move to a lay-by, a hard shoulder or the first slip road. Get everyone out on the side away from traffic and wait behind a barrier if there is one. If the car is stuck in a live lane, stay belted in and call 999. Once you're safe, ring us and tell us exactly where you are; the fitter will work out how to reach you, and if needed we can arrange to move the car.
