Shirley Motorists and the Stratford Road
Shirley grew up along the A34 Stratford Road, a few miles west of Solihull town centre, and that road still shapes how most people here get about. Head north and you are into Birmingham; head south and you reach junction 4 of the M42 within minutes. Between the two there is a steady stream of commuters, shoppers and delivery vans, and when one of them picks up a puncture, it usually happens at the worst possible moment.
Rather than nursing the car to a tyre centre, you can have a mobile fitter come to you. That could be at home in Monkspath or Cranmore, in a car park just off the Stratford Road, or at your desk at Blythe Valley Park. We work 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and aim to be with most Shirley drivers within 60 minutes, depending on traffic.
What a Call-Out Involves
The process is quick. You tell us where you are and give us the tyre size if you have it. We pick the closest fitter from a network of more than 100 across England and Wales. They arrive with the tyre, the jack and the balancing kit, and do the job beside your car.
Every fitting includes wheel balancing and the disposal of your old tyre, both free. New tyres carry the manufacturer's guarantee. You can pay by card, cash or bank transfer, and you will not find any hidden fees on the bill.
For people working from home or juggling children, the big advantage is not having to rearrange the day. The fitter comes to your address, does the work, and leaves you to get on.
Car and Van Tyre Services in Shirley
- Mobile tyre fitting: premium, mid-range and budget options, so you can match the tyre to the car and the way you drive it.
- Puncture repair: a clean puncture in the central part of the tread, under 6 mm across, can normally be repaired. Anything else gets a replacement, fitted there and then.
- Van tyres: for the vans that work the A34 corridor and in and out of Blythe Valley Park, with tyres rated for the extra load.
- Breakdown recovery: when a wheel or suspension part is damaged and the car has to be moved rather than fixed on the spot.
Monkspath, Cranmore, Dickens Heath and Nearby
Our fitters cover the whole of Shirley, including Monkspath, Cranmore and the newer homes at Dickens Heath, as well as the Stratford Road and the M42 around junction 4. To the south, we also reach Blythe Valley Park, Hockley Heath and Illshaw Heath.
Shirley is part of the wider Solihull borough, and you can read about the rest of it on our Solihull page. We also have pages for Knowle to the east and for Birmingham.
Check Your Tread Depth With a 20p Coin
The legal minimum tread depth for a car in the UK is 1.6 mm across the central three-quarters of the tyre, all the way round. Below that you risk a fine and penalty points, but grip in the wet drops off well before you reach the limit.
A simple check needs nothing more than a 20p coin. Push it into the main grooves at several points across each tyre. If the outer band of the coin disappears, you still have a reasonable amount of tread. If you can see the band, the tyre is getting close to the limit and is worth replacing soon. Most tyres also have small raised bars inside the grooves, called wear indicators, which sit level with the tread surface once it is worn down to 1.6 mm. Do the test on all four tyres, because front and rear often wear at different rates.
