Mobile Tyres Between the University and the Bristol Road
Selly Oak sits about five miles south-west of central Birmingham, strung along the A38 Bristol Road. Since 2011 the Aston Webb Boulevard bypass has taken through traffic around the narrow stretch towards Bournbrook, but the old road, the Pershore Road (A441) to the east and the streets around the university are still full of cars, many of them parked for days at a time.
So when a tyre goes down, it's often on a car that hasn't moved since last weekend, in a street where nobody wants to give up their space. A mobile fitter solves both problems: we come to the car and do the work there. Call any time and we'll aim to have someone with you within 60 minutes in most cases, traffic permitting.
Why Students and Residents Call Us Out
You might not have a spare, a jack or a clue where the locking wheel nut is, and that's fine. Our fitter brings everything needed. The job goes to the nearest member of our network of 100+ mobile fitters across England and Wales, each with years of hands-on tyre work behind them.
Every fitting includes free wheel balancing and free disposal of the old tyre, and new tyres carry the manufacturer's guarantee. You choose between premium, mid-range and budget options, and pay by card, cash or bank transfer at the end, with nothing hidden on the bill.
It also suits people who work long shifts locally and come back to the car late at night. Rather than leaving it until tomorrow, or calling in a favour from a friend with a pump, you can have the tyre dealt with there and then. If the car is parked tightly, tell us when you call so the fitter knows what to expect when they arrive.
What We Can Do in Selly Oak
- Mobile tyre fitting: replacement tyres fitted outside a shared house in Bournbrook, at work, or in a car park off the Bristol Road.
- Puncture repair: small holes in the central tread can usually be repaired, which is the cheaper route if you're on a student budget. We'll be honest if it can't be done safely.
- Van tyres: for removal vans and delivery drivers who spend much of September and June on these streets.
- Breakdown recovery: when it's more than a tyre and the car needs to be taken away.
Bournbrook, Selly Park and Beyond
We cover all of Selly Oak, including Bournbrook, Selly Park and Ten Acres, and the main routes through them: the A38 Bristol Road, the Aston Webb Boulevard and the A441 Pershore Road. Fitters also head further out along the A38 towards Northfield.
Nearby, we have pages for Kings Heath, Halesowen and Bromsgrove, which lies down the A38 to the south-west.
Driving Home at the End of Term? Do the 20p Test
A car that mostly sits in a Selly Oak street and then does a long motorway run home at Christmas or in summer is a common recipe for trouble. Tyres lose pressure while the car is parked, and worn tread that felt fine on short hops is far less forgiving in heavy rain at 70mph.
Before you set off, push a 20p coin into the main grooves of each tyre. If you can see the outer band of the coin, the tread is getting close to the legal minimum of 1.6mm and needs checking. Then set the pressures, with the tyres cold, to the figures for a loaded car shown inside the driver's door or in the handbook. Five minutes on the street saves a long wait on the hard shoulder.
