Stuck with a flat in High Wycombe?
Tyres rarely fail at a convenient time. It might be a blowout on the A404 on the way home from Marlow, a tyre found flat on the drive in Totteridge before a dawn start, or a warning light in the Cressex car park at the end of a late shift. Whatever the hour, call us. We take calls 24 hours a day, every day, and send the nearest available fitter with a replacement tyre and the kit to fit it where the car is.
We aim to reach you within 60 minutes in most cases. It depends on where you are, the time and the traffic, and we'll give you an honest estimate when you call.
First, get somewhere safe
The tyre can wait a few minutes. Your safety can't. What to do depends on where the tyre went:
- On the M40: move onto the hard shoulder or into an emergency area, switch on the hazard lights and leave the car by the left-hand doors. Wait behind the barrier, well up the verge, and don't try to change the wheel yourself. Our motorway flat tyre guide covers this step by step.
- On a fast A road such as the A404 towards Marlow or the A40 towards Beaconsfield: pull into the next lay-by or side road if you can do it slowly and safely, rather than stopping in a live lane.
- In town or on a hill: pull in where you're not blocking a junction or a bus route, put the handbrake on firmly and turn the wheels into the kerb on a slope.
Try not to drive any further on the flat. Even a short distance can wreck a tyre that could have been repaired, and it can damage the wheel too.
What we can do at the roadside
Most emergencies end with a new tyre fitted where the car stands. If the damage is a small puncture in the central part of the tread and the tyre hasn't been driven on flat, the fitter may be able to repair it instead, following British Standard guidance. If the car can't be worked on safely where it is, for example on a hard shoulder or a narrow bend, our breakdown recovery can move it somewhere that can.
New tyres come in premium, mid-range and budget brands and carry the manufacturer's guarantee. Wheel balancing and taking your old tyre away are included free.
Locking wheel nuts: if your car has them, the key is usually in the glovebox or with the jack. Check it's there while you wait. Without it, the wheel can't come off.
Why tyres here tend to give up late in the day
Wycombe sits in the Wye valley with steep residential roads climbing out of the town centre, and a lot of drivers commute out along the M40 or the A404. Tyres tend to give up at the end of a long day: a slow puncture picked up in the morning that finally lets go on the climb home, or kerb damage on a tight hill street that turns into a bulge. If it happens after the garages have shut, that's exactly when we're still answering the phone.
Where we come out to
Anywhere in and around the town, including Booker, Cressex, Castlefield, Sands, Terriers, Micklefield and Wycombe Marsh, and the areas just outside such as Hazlemere, Loudwater and Hughenden Valley. We also cover the M40 around junctions 3 and 4, the A404 and the A40, and neighbouring towns such as Marlow and Beaconsfield.
What to tell us when you call
- Where you are: a road name, junction number, postcode or a what3words location.
- What happened: a flat, a blowout, a bulge, or a warning light.
- Your tyre size from the sidewall, for example 225/45 R17, or your registration if you can't read it.
- Whether you're somewhere safe to wait.
