Staying Safe With a Flat on the A55 or in the Tunnel
The expressway around Conwy runs through tunnels, and some stretches have little or no hard shoulder. If a tyre goes soft or you feel the steering pull, don't stop in the tunnel if you can help it. Slow down, put your hazard lights on and keep going gently until you reach a lay-by, a slip road or an emergency area beyond the tunnel mouth.
Once you have stopped, everyone should get out on the passenger side and wait behind the barrier, well away from the traffic. Don't try to change a wheel yourself next to vehicles passing at speed. If you really can't get out of the tunnel, switch the engine off, leave the hazards on and use the emergency phone.
