Many cars have one locking nut on each wheel, and it can only be undone with the matching key. When a fitter arrives and that key has gone missing, a simple tyre change takes much longer. It usually lives in the glovebox, the boot floor or the tray with the jack, but cars change hands and keys get lost.
It is worth finding yours now, while nothing is wrong, and keeping it in one place. While you are looking, check what your car has instead of a spare: plenty of newer models carry only a sealant kit, which will not help with a split sidewall or a large cut. Knowing this before a flat means you can tell us straight away and we can plan the job properly.
