Tyre Fitting for a Small City Surrounded by Countryside
Ripon is a compact city, and once you leave it you are quickly into open farmland and village lanes. The A61 runs south to Harrogate and, as the Ripon bypass, east to meet the A1(M) at junction 50. The A6108 heads north-west towards Masham, about ten miles away, and junction 48 at Boroughbridge is the other main way onto the motorway. Many people here drive a fair distance for work, shopping or school, often on narrow roads with few places to pull in.
A flat tyre out there can leave you a long way from help, which is where a mobile fitter makes sense. We send someone to the car with the right tyre and fit it on the spot, at any time of day or night. In most cases we aim to reach you within 60 minutes, though rural locations and traffic can affect that.
What You Get When a Fitter Comes Out to Ripon
- A fitter close to you. We work with over 100 experienced mobile fitters across England and Wales, and the job goes to whoever is nearest.
- The work done where you are. That might be your drive, a farm gateway, the market square or a lay-by on the A61.
- Nothing extra to pay for the basics. Balancing and disposal of your old tyre are both free, and new tyres carry the manufacturer's guarantee.
Settle up by card, cash or bank transfer when the fitter has finished. There are no hidden charges. If the tyre can be repaired rather than replaced, the fitter will say so, and if it cannot, they explain why before any work starts.
Ripon Tyre Services
- Mobile tyre fitting: replacement tyres for cars and small 4x4s, in budget, mid-range or premium brands, fitted in town or out in the villages.
- Puncture repair: where a thorn or nail has gone into the centre of the tread and the hole is under 6 mm, a repair is usually possible and saves you buying a new tyre.
- Van tyres: for farm suppliers, builders and other trades running vans around Ripon and the surrounding countryside.
- Breakdown recovery: for cars that have ended up in a verge or ditch, or where the wheel is too badly damaged to fit a tyre at the roadside.
Covering Ripon, the Ure Valley and Beyond
We cover every part of the city on both sides of the River Ure, along with villages to the south such as Bishop Monkton, Burton Leonard and South Stainley. Our fitters also work the A61, the bypass, the A6108 towards Masham and the roads east to Boroughbridge and the A1(M).
From Ripon we reach down the A61 to Harrogate and Knaresborough, and north towards Northallerton.
Hedge-Cutting Season and Slow Punctures
In late summer and autumn the hedges along country lanes get trimmed, and the cuttings that end up on the road often include hawthorn and blackthorn. Those thorns are sharp enough to work into a tyre and cause a slow leak that only shows up days later as a soft tyre on the drive.
If you drive the lanes around Ripon regularly, look at your tyres once a week during the cutting season and keep an eye on the pressures. A tyre that has lost a few psi since the last check probably has something in it. Catching it early usually means a straightforward repair rather than a ruined tyre, so give us a call before it goes flat.
