Tyres Fitted at Home in the First Garden City
Letchworth was laid out from 1903 as the world's first garden city, with wide verges, tree-lined roads and homes set back behind hedges. That design still shapes how people drive here. The original plan runs between Wilbury Road and Norton Road in the north, Icknield Way through the middle and the A505 along the south, while the A1(M) is reached at junction 9, known locally as Letchworth Gate.
If a tyre fails, you don't have to get the car across town to a workshop. One of our fitters drives out to you, whether the car is on your drive, in a side road or at work, and changes or repairs the tyre there. We take calls 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and aim to arrive within 60 minutes for most jobs, traffic permitting.
The generous verges and quiet roads in many parts of town make it easy for a fitter to work safely beside the car. In the busier centre or on the A505, we'll ask you to move to a safer spot first if you can do so without damaging the wheel.
What to Expect When a Fitter Arrives
Once you've rung, the job goes to the nearest available fitter from a network of more than 100 across England and Wales. They arrive with the tyre, the tools and a compressor, and need nothing from you apart from access to the wheel and, if the car has them, the locking wheel nut key.
- Repair first, where it's safe. If the puncture can be fixed properly, it will be.
- Free extras. Balancing and disposal of your old tyre are part of the job.
- Covered tyres. The manufacturer's guarantee comes with every new tyre.
- Straightforward payment. Card, cash or transfer, and no hidden fees.
How We Help Letchworth Motorists
- Mobile tyre fitting: choose a premium, mid-range or budget tyre and have it put on outside your house, without queuing at a tyre bay.
- Puncture repair: for a nail or screw in the tread area, a proper internal repair is often all that's needed.
- Van tyres: light commercial tyres for vans working from the town's industrial estates and out along the A505.
- Breakdown recovery: arranged when a damaged wheel or the car's position means it has to be moved.
Grange, Jackmans and the Garden City Estates
Our fitters cover the whole town: the original garden city streets around the centre, the Grange estate to the north, and the Jackmans, Lordship and Manor Park estates to the south. We also attend jobs on the A505 between the A1(M) and the edge of town, and on the motorway around junction 9.
Letchworth sits close to several towns we also serve, such as Hitchin to the south-west, Baldock to the east and Stevenage a short drive down the A1(M).
Screws and Nails Near Building Work
Wherever there's building, renovation or roadworks, screws, nails and offcuts end up on the road and on verges. A garden city full of older houses sees plenty of extensions and loft conversions, and the debris has a habit of working its way into tyre treads. Often there's no bang, just a tyre that is a little lower each morning.
If you notice one tyre losing air slowly, look closely around the tread for a shiny screw head. Leave it in place, as pulling it out usually makes the leak much faster. Top the tyre up if you can and call us. Caught early, a puncture like this in the central part of the tread is usually repairable, whereas driving on it flat can ruin the tyre.
Ask for a Letchworth Fitter
Our number is 07989 606060 and it's staffed through the night. WhatsApp and the website contact form also reach us.
Before you call, find the tyre size on the side of the tyre and note your registration and the road you're on. Then we can tell you the price and send someone out. Common questions about repairs and timing are answered in our FAQ.
