Stevenage Tyre Fitting, Brought to Your Car
Stevenage was built as one of the post-war new towns, and it was planned with the car in mind. The town is laid out as a set of neighbourhoods linked by main roads, with the A1(M) running along its western side and junctions 7 and 8 giving quick access north and south. For many people the daily routine is a short hop from home to the motorway, which keeps tyres working hard.
When one lets you down, we come out to you. A fitter can work on the car outside your house, in a works car park or at a safe spot by the road. We answer at all hours, and for most Stevenage addresses we'd hope to be with you within an hour, depending on traffic at the time.
Across the planned estates, a lot of cars are parked in courts, garage blocks and shared bays rather than on long private drives. Our fitters are used to working in those spaces, as long as there is enough room to jack the car and reach the wheel safely.
Why a Mobile Fitter Suits a New Town
With so many people driving out of town to work, the car often isn't free to take to a garage in the day. A fitter coming to you fixes that problem. We pass your call to the nearest of more than 100 fitters in our network across England and Wales, all with long experience of tyre work.
- The wheel is balanced after fitting, free of charge.
- We take the old tyre and dispose of it responsibly for free.
- New tyres carry the manufacturer's guarantee.
- Payment by bank transfer, card or cash, with no surprise additions.
The Work We Do in Stevenage
- Mobile tyre fitting: a single tyre or a full set, chosen from premium, mid-range and budget ranges and fitted where the car is parked.
- Puncture repair: we check the location and size of the damage first, and only repair it when it meets the British Standard guidance.
- Van tyres: for vans based on the town's industrial areas or running up and down the A1(M) all day.
- Breakdown recovery: for a car that can't be fixed or moved safely where it stopped.
Stevenage Neighbourhoods We Reach
Each of the original neighbourhoods is covered: Bedwell, Broadwater, Shephall, Chells, Pin Green and Symonds Green, along with the Old Town and the newer development at Great Ashby to the north. Our fitters also attend the A1(M) around junctions 7 and 8 and the A602 as it heads off towards Hitchin and Ware.
Beyond the town, we cover Hitchin, Letchworth Garden City and Welwyn Garden City, with Hertford further along the A602.
Uneven Wear on Front-Wheel-Drive Cars
On most everyday cars the front wheels do the steering, the driving and most of the braking. Lots of short trips with frequent turns and stops, the kind a neighbourhood layout produces, wear the front tyres faster than the rears. It is common to find the fronts near the legal limit while the back pair still look fine.
Check all four, not just the ones you can see easily. The tread wear indicators, small raised bars in the main grooves, show when a tyre is down to 1.6mm. If the fronts are low, replacing them as a pair keeps the handling even. Wear on only one edge of a tyre can point to an alignment problem worth getting checked.
