The Mobile Tyre Service for Barnstaple
Barnstaple is North Devon's main town, and it's a long way from the motorway. The A361 North Devon Link Road runs roughly 40 miles east to junction 27 of the M5, while the Western Bypass, opened in 2007, takes traffic for Braunton and Ilfracombe around the town centre. The A39 Atlantic Highway carries on west towards Bideford and Cornwall.
With distances like that, a tyre failure can leave you a long way from help. We close the gap by bringing the help to you. A mobile fitter drives out with the tyre and the equipment, then repairs or replaces it at your home, at work, or wherever on the road you've stopped safely.
Lines are open every hour of every day, and in most cases we aim to be with you inside 60 minutes, depending on where in North Devon you are.
What a Barnstaple Call-Out Involves
You call or message; we take your location and the tyre details; the nearest free fitter is sent. Our network has more than 100 fitters across England and Wales, so we can usually find someone working in the north of the county rather than sending a van all the way along the Link Road.
When they arrive, the fitter checks the tyre and tells you straight whether it's repairable. Here's what is included either way:
- Wheel balancing on any new tyre, at no extra charge.
- Removal and disposal of the old tyre, also free.
- The manufacturer's guarantee on every new tyre we fit.
- A clear price up front, payable by card, cash or bank transfer.
Tyre and Recovery Services in North Devon
Our mobile tyre fitting brings budget, mid-range and premium tyres to driveways from Sticklepath to Pilton. Picked up a nail? Our tyre repair service fixes punctures in the central tread when they're small enough to repair safely.
For businesses based in and around the town, van tyre fitting keeps delivery and trade vehicles on the road. And if the wheel is damaged or the car can't be made safe at the roadside, our recovery service takes it away.
Barnstaple Areas and the Villages Around the Taw
We cover the town centre and the old villages it has grown to include, such as Pilton, Newport and Roundswell, along with Sticklepath on the far side of the river. West along the estuary, Bickington and Fremington are in our area, and north along the A361 we reach Knowle and Braunton.
We also have pages for Bideford to the west and Tiverton at the other end of the Link Road.
Wet Roads and Tread Depth on the Link Road
North Devon gets more than its share of rain, and the A361 is a fast road with long single-carriageway sections. That combination punishes worn tyres. As the tread gets shallower, there's less room for water to escape, and the car can start to aquaplane at speeds that felt perfectly safe when the tyres were new.
The law allows you to drive down to 1.6mm, but grip in the wet drops off well before that. Many drivers in Barnstaple replace at around 3mm, especially before winter. Most tyres have small tread-wear bars moulded into the grooves: when the tread is level with them, it's time for new ones. In heavy rain, ease off and leave more room behind the car in front, whatever your tread depth.
Contact Us for a Barnstaple Tyre Fitter
Phone 07989 606060, any time, or get in touch by WhatsApp or our contact form. The registration, your location and the tyre size (it's the set of numbers like 195/65 R15 on the sidewall) are what we need to send the right tyre first time.
If you're on the Link Road, the nearest junction or village name is the most useful thing you can give us. Stay behind the barrier or well up the verge while you wait. For other questions, see our FAQ.
