On the Road in Torquay
Driving in Torquay means hills. Streets climb steeply from the harbour up to Wellswood, Babbacombe and St Marychurch, and many of them are lined with parked cars on both sides. Further inland, Shiphay, Barton and Chelston are more suburban, and the A380 South Devon Highway carries traffic out past Kingskerswell towards Newton Abbot and the M5.
Tight, sloping roads are hard on tyres, and they are also awkward places to change a wheel yourself. So we do it for you. A mobile fitter comes to the car with the correct tyre, makes the vehicle safe, and repairs or replaces the tyre wherever it can be reached safely.
We're available round the clock, and most Torquay jobs are reached within an hour, though summer traffic along the seafront can slow things down.
The Torquay Call-Out, Step by Step
- Ring or message us with the details. Your street, the tyre size and a quick description of the damage are all we need.
- A nearby fitter is dispatched. We coordinate 100+ mobile fitters across England and Wales and choose the one best placed for Torbay.
- The tyre is sorted at the kerb. You get free balancing and free disposal of the old tyre; new tyres come with the manufacturer's guarantee.
The price is agreed first and there are no hidden extras. Pay with cash, card or a bank transfer.
On a steep road, the fitter will chock the wheels and check the car is stable before lifting it. If the slope or the traffic makes the spot unsafe, they may ask to move the car a short distance to a flatter side street first, which is usually possible even on a flat tyre if driven slowly.
Torquay Tyre Services
New tyres: our mobile tyre fitting service covers budget, mid-range and premium options, fitted outside your home or hotel.
Punctures: with mobile tyre repair, a nail in the tread is fixed properly when it meets the safety rules, saving you a new tyre.
Vans: van tyre fitting helps tradespeople who spend their days on Torquay's narrow residential roads.
Recovery: if the wheel is damaged or the car is blocking a steep street, breakdown recovery moves it somewhere safe.
From Babbacombe to Cockington: Our Torquay Patch
We cover every part of town, including Babbacombe, St Marychurch, Wellswood, Torre, Ellacombe, Plainmoor, Watcombe, Hele, Barton, Shiphay, Chelston, Cockington and Livermead, plus the harbour area and the seafront.
Along the bay and inland we also serve Paignton and Newton Abbot, with Kingskerswell in between. Drivers heading out on the South Devon Highway towards the M5 can call us from the road too, once they've stopped somewhere safe.
Steep Streets and Sidewall Scuffs
Parking on a hill usually means turning the wheels into the kerb, and in Torquay that happens dozens of times a week. Each time the tyre rubs or rides up against the stone, the sidewall takes a knock. The sidewall is the one part of a tyre that can't be repaired.
Every so often, crouch down and look along the outer side of each front tyre. Watch for bulges, deep scrapes or cuts that show cords underneath. A bulge means the internal structure is damaged and the tyre could fail without warning, especially on a fast road like the South Devon Highway. If you see one, don't wait for it to get worse: swap to the spare or call us out.
Booking a Torquay Fitter
Our number is 07989 606060, open 24 hours. WhatsApp and our online contact form are alternatives. Please have the registration and your exact location ready; on a long hill, a house number or side road helps.
Visitors staying in the town are welcome to call too. If you're unsure of the street, a hotel name or a photo of the nearest road sign sent by WhatsApp is enough for us to work out where you are.
