Caravans and trailers spend most of the year parked, so their tyres rarely wear down. What gets them instead is age: rubber hardens and cracks over time, and a tyre with plenty of tread can still fail on a long, hot tow down the A380.
Find the four-digit date code on the sidewall; 2319, for example, means week 23 of 2019. Many caravan makers recommend replacing tyres at around five to seven years old, whatever the tread looks like.
