A Tyre Fitter Who Comes Down the Valley to You
Berkhamsted sits in a valley, with the High Street running along the bottom and steep roads climbing out on both sides. Since the bypass opened, the A41 has carried most through traffic south of the town, while Kings Road links it to the centre and New Road heads north past Ashridge towards Dunstable. Away from those routes, a lot of driving here is on narrow residential streets and Chiltern lanes with hedges close on either side.
None of that makes it easy to nurse a flat tyre to a garage. So our fitters come to you instead, whether the car is outside your house, in a station car park after the commute, or pulled in at the side of a country lane.
We work 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and normally aim to reach you within the hour. Traffic on the High Street and the A41 can push that out a little.
How a Call-Out in Berkhamsted Works
- You ring or message us. Let us know where you are and, if you can, the size marked on the side of the tyre. A photo of the sidewall is just as good.
- A nearby fitter is booked. With more than 100 mobile fitters across England and Wales, we can usually find one already working in west Hertfordshire.
- The work is done on the spot. Free wheel balancing and free disposal of the old tyre are part of every fitting, and new tyres keep their manufacturer's guarantee.
You settle up afterwards by card, cash or bank transfer. Nothing extra is added on top of the quoted price.
It also helps with the awkward jobs: a car parked on a steep residential street, a tyre that has gone soft overnight on a narrow road where you'd rather not drive it, or a flat discovered just as you're due to leave for work. The fitter works where the car is, provided the wheel can be reached safely.
Our Services in and Around Berkhamsted
- Mobile tyre fitting: a new tyre fitted on your drive or at your office, from budget options to premium brands, without losing half a day to a garage visit.
- Puncture repair: small punctures in the central part of the tread can be repaired to British Standard guidance. Anything outside that and we'll swap the tyre while we're there.
- Van tyres: builders and delivery drivers working the villages around the town can have the van sorted at the job.
- Breakdown recovery: for a damaged wheel, or a car stuck somewhere on a lane where a roadside fitting wouldn't be safe.
Northchurch, Potten End and Beyond
We cover the whole of Berkhamsted, plus Northchurch to the north-west and Potten End to the north-east, the commons and lanes around Ashridge, and the A41, A4251 and A416 routes in and out of the town.
Our fitters also look after drivers in the neighbouring towns of Tring, Chesham, Kings Langley and Amersham.
Lane Tip: Watch Your Sidewalls When Passing on Narrow Roads
On a single-track lane, the usual way to let someone past is to tuck the nearside wheels onto the verge or into a passing place. Verges in the Chilterns often hide flints, broken tarmac edges and deep ruts, and the sidewall is the weakest part of a tyre.
Go slowly when you pull over, and avoid running the tyre hard along a raised edge. Afterwards, glance at the outer face of your nearside tyres. A scuff is usually nothing, but a cut, a bubble or a flat spot in the rubber means the tyre needs replacing, because sidewall damage can't be repaired safely. If you spot one, call us before you set off up the hill.
